So, I moved to Sardinia
The island is a myth made real—ancient, proud, and enduring—and I could use a little of that
It’s been a week since I moved to Sardinia—an ancient, wild island in the Mediterranean. It’s felt a lot like coming home. I’ve spent the better part of the past two years coming and going from this place, and the moment I touched down, I felt a sense of familiarity—like the island and I were recognizing each other again. Something about its wise, enduring presence makes it easy to feel grounded, like the old gods are extending the hand of archetypal anchoring.
The call of peacocks and the rumble of early summer thunderstorms have been the soundtrack to my days so far. I’ve spent several sunny mornings climbing to the top of Monte Urpinu, a beloved park here in Cagliari that—incidentally—has a café nestled among the pine trees and apartment buildings for the stray cats. My afternoons have been filled with building up my fridge and pantry from scratch, one niche Sardinian grocery item at a time.
It’s a slow start—and I’m grateful for it. After two and a half years of full time travel, I’m so thankful for the chance to put my bags down, unpack, and begin to grow roots.
The little things I once took for granted—lining up my skincare in the medicine cabinet, buying yeast and flour to make bread, and owning a teapot—now feel like gentle promises to the future: I am building a life here.
There’s something about this place. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s wise, ancient, and unflinchingly proud of its storied heritage—but it feels grounded, in a way I’ve been longing for. Over the past few years, I’ve watched myself transform from a restless, nomadic soul into someone who craves roots—even if those roots sometimes stretch across oceans.
It might be because I turned 30 this year, but I’m more excited than ever for this next chapter of life. I intend to make this decade one of settling in—with myself, and in the places where my roots don’t just graze the earth, but bury themselves deep.
Here’s to new beginnings in an ancient place! ✨
